I welcome you all to The East African University medical unit.

In any institution of higher learning, a healthy mind and a healthy body is critical. In this regard, The East African University has set up a fully equipped and functional medical clinic Unit which offers first aid and other medical services to the members of the university community-students and staff. The university medical unit offers health services 24 hours and a stand-by vehicle in case of serious medical emergencies for referral services.

Eligibility for medical services

These medical services are offered to fully registered students and university staff.

SERVICES OFFERED AT THE MEDICAL UNIT

The university clinic unit, on a regular basis, carries out preventive services by conducting health education to staff and students on a one to one approach or in groups in cases of epidemics or outbreaks. It is important to note that preventive works best when combined with curative care. Therefore, in case of sickness beyond prevention, we do curative treatment.

Laboratory and medical tests:

  • Laboratory tests are done when necessary. Tests conducted include: malaria, typhoid, UTI, Amoeba etc. for better and effective treatment. Medical exams/tests is also among our priorities in treatment. In this line, we carry out pregnancy tests, blood sugars, blood pressure, weight and HIV tests. These tests are on voluntary basis

Screening and vaccination services:

  • The university clinic unit management, encourages feedback and updates in order to strengthen its knowledge base. This is done by conducting seminars and education forums for our staff and students. Guiding and counselling is considered as part of the education and that is why we have a qualified counsellor to assist students’ mental health. This includes counselling on HIV, STDs, Sexual behaviors and drug and alcohol abuse on daily basis

Hygiene and sanitation:

  • Water borne diseases are common everywhere. Members of the university community are always encouraged to use clean boiled water for drinking and always practice the highest level of hygiene
